Carragher slams Chelsea’s start to the season as he blasts ‘shocking’ Willian

By: in Sport

Chelsea have been heavily slammed by Jamie Carragher following their poor start to the Premier League season, claiming ‘it’s like a basketball game’ when they play.

Frank Lampard has yet to guide his Chelsea side to victory after sensationally taking over from Maurizio Sarri, who departed for Italian giants Juventus earlier this summer.

After a promising start at Old Trafford, the Blues were eventually thrashed 4-0 by Manchester United before being held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Leicester in the Premier League just days after their Super Cup defeat.

Lampard has instilled more intensity into Chelsea since becoming manager but former Liverpool defender Carragher claims they need to be more streetwise and less gung-ho.

Carragher told Sky Sports: ‘What would worry him [Lampard] most is that it’s like watching a basketball game. People keep talking about them being naive. They have got no organisation in possession.

‘Every clip I look at there is a 40 square by 40 square of space. They are not organised in an attack. It’s too easy to get out, that’s why it becomes a basketball game.’

Chelsea let a one-goal lead slip against Leicester at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with Wilfred Ndidi emphatically heading home following Mason Mount’s early opener.

Leicester pushed for the win late on against Chelsea, with James Maddison and Jamie Vardy both missing great chances.

And Carragher believes Chelsea were lucky to get away with a draw, before hitting out at Willian following his cameo role off the bench.

‘Towards the end of the game they should have lost really’. he added.

‘If Frank had another sub, I think he would have brought him [Willian] off. He was shocking.’
